I love having flowers around me; in the house and in the garden. To me they represent love, friendship, growth and renewal. So, I began spending time drawing flowers, groups of flowers, flower scenes and bouquets. Here are a few of my sketches.
I began thinking about how to create flowers in my usual medium, sterling silver. I could cut them out of a sheet of silver or create a wire wrapped effect. In the end, I decided to try out my designs using sterling silver metal clay. The clay is soft and pliable at first, allowing me to sculpt and texture the shapes I wanted. It dries in the air until is is firm and is then ready to fire in a kiln. Here are some of my finished bouquets. I have added 24 carat gold foil to add brightness and contrast.
